Commercial Insurance Customer Service Representative (CSR) – Downtown Chicago Branch Office

Job Description: CSR will be responsible for all aspects of the new business and renewal processes including risk selection, risk analysis, risk recommendations, policy issuance, and account billing. Lines of business will include D&O, EPLI, Workers Compensation and Cyber. Candidate will work with various software platforms including, Outlook, MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, and our Agency Management System (Applied Epic). Will interact with other CSRs and Account Producers and will work on new business as a well as an established book of business. Must be able to communicate with people at all levels (colleagues, insurance brokers, etc.), be customer focused and quality driven. Communication will be through email and via phone. Systems and insurance training is provided. No travel required.

Associated Tasks:

Thoroughly evaluate accounts to determine if they meet established underwriting guidelines.
Ensure compliance to program guidelines
Prepare/Finalize referrals as required for carrier approval.
Evaluate and Prepare loss analysis.
Be able to price risks based upon supporting documentation.
Evaluate applications to ensure completion and review missing materials with clients.
Accurately enter data into computer systems
Prepare insurance quotes and proposals, and collect information for quoting.

Skills and Qualifications:

Analytical skills.
Must have excellent verbal and written skills.
Confident in computer skills and ability to manage software programs (Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, Adobe Acrobat)
Detailed organizational and documentation skills.
Ability to establish priorities and maintain consistent work flow to meet target dates
Ability to work well with team
Self-motivated and ability to work independently to complete assigned work

Education / Experience Requirements:

High School Graduate
Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Some insurance experience is preferred but not required.

Summary:

The McGowan Program Administrators (MPA) Associate Underwriter is an entry-level position into the insurance industry.

Underwriting is a critical thinking position that involves analyzing a risk for its potential to generate a profit. At MPA, the Associate Underwriter reviews and assesses risks for placement in our umbrella insurance program using applications, online research, and other pre-defined tools. Over time, Associate Underwriter will be responsible for the growth and retention of new and renewal business within an assigned territory.

Individual must have excellent phone and computer skills to deliver outstanding customer service to agents and brokers.

Experience:

– Undergraduate degree preferred.
– Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
– Computer proficiency and working knowledge of Microsoft suites required.
– No prior insurance experience is required.

Essential Responsibilities:

– Service new business accounts based on a defined set of guidelines, including analyzing profitability and potential to generate a loss.
– Maintain a renewal book through diligent follow-up procedures.
– Calculate premiums using pre-determined rating metrics.
– Develop relationships with agents and brokers by negotiating coverage terms and premiums over the phone and through email.
– Work closely with sales teams to generate new opportunities for department growth.
– Promote the values of McGowan Program Administrators through customer service excellence.
